Response to the Supreme Court Rulings on Homosexual Marriage

As Christians, we may be disheartened to learn of the Supreme Court’s decision to permit same-sex marriage. Before there is serious panic, we should consider a few things. First of all, the ruling was not nationwide. It allows same-sex marriage to happen in the states it is already legal. It does not force it on states in which it is illegal. Second, it applies to civil marriages and does not force the church to perform such marriages.
Christian marriage cannot be undermined or devalued by the allowance of civil homosexual marriage. A Christian marriage is ordained by God, and can never be destroyed.
In addition, while there are concerns with societal allowance of sin, we should be addressing  the acceptance of homosexual behavior, as well as other sin that had infiltrated our own churches. How are we strengthening traditional marriage? How are we dealing with the commonality of divorce? Adultery? What about idolatry? There are many serious issues that plague Christ’s people! If our churches are sick, how can they heal others?
Christianity is not designed to fit into popular culture. Followers of Christ will always find themselves at odds with the world. Christ told us it would be this way. Hence, we live as Christ commands, not the world. But he also told us not to worry. He told us our Father in heaven will always take care of us, and when we are questioned, the Spirit will tell us what to say. Of course there is reason for concern, but we must not let it take away from our mission of spreading the Gospel so people may see the truth.
What we should not do, is react angrily or with malice. When our hearts are hurt we turn to Jesus, and he will give us refuge. We must react with love, patience, compassion, and faith, just as Jesus would. We will keep our Christian brothers and sisters who deal with this issue directly in our prayers.
That being said, there are lies circulating that the Bible said nothing against same-sex marriage. Here are some verses that prove otherwise. God Bless.
 Mark 10:6-9

New International Version (NIV)

6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Genesis 2:23-24

New International Version (NIV)

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
    for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
