Faithfulness (Psalm 23), Commentary

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want- God is our provider, our guide, and gives all we need, that we should desire nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters- We follow Jesus; He guides us to safe havens for rest and refreshment. He restores my soul- He returns our souls to a peaceful state, after they have been battered by the sorrows of life. By his blood He cleanses us from sin. He leads me in paths of righteousness- He corrects our direction, that we are not lead to sin, that we will know his goodness, for his name’s sake- for his glory. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death- in a sinful world, a believer is exposed to much danger.  The wages of sin is death, but Jesus shows us the way to life.  I will fear no evil– for the love of Jesus is perfect, and perfect love casts out fear (John 4:18). Your rod and your staff,  they comfort me- The words and promises of Christ protect us and guide us. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies- in my humility you exalt me. You anoint my head with oil- as a child of God, my cup overflows- You provide me with more than enough in your love. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me- because we submit to Jesus, we are granted mercy and salvation, and guided in righteousness. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever-  Eternity is promised for all who accept Jesus.
Be faithful in God! He keeps his Promises!
