Psalm 130, Commentary

Out of the depths I cry to you– From great distress, at our lowest point, God is the only one capable of raising us.
Let your ears be attentive– Although I have turned from you in sin
to the voice of my pleas for mercy– have compassion on me, as my Father, for I suffer from my own sin
If you, O Lord should mark iniquities– If you took into account all our sin, in thought, word, and deed, and judge us as we deserve
who could stand?- No man save one was ever sinless, we would all perish
But with you there is a forgiveness– God has always welcomed repentance
that you may be feared–  as only through Jesus can we be forgiven, there is no other way to God. We must fear God as our only judge.
I wait for the Lord- to rescue me from myself, my sin; we wait for Jesus to return.
my soul waits- for forgiveness, to be purified; to be with Christ
in his word I hope– that He will keep his promises of never forsaking us; that Jesus will return
more than the watchmen for the morning– more than those guarding at night wait for the morning, that they may leave their post and go home, we wait for God to save us from distress; we guard our souls until Jesus comes to take us home
O Israel, hope in the Lord!- All of our nation should trust in God for safety and protection
For with the Lord there is steadfast love– Unshakable is God’s love for us
with him is plentiful redemption– There is no end to his mercy
And he will redeem Israel- All of us, through Jesus Christ
from all his iniquities– and cleanse us of sin, sacrificing his son for us, that we may dwell with him forever

  1. There is only one thing I can say and that is WOW!! WOW!!!! Who would not want this kind of LOVE!!!! Unshakable God’s love for us, is just so amazing!!!!!!!!! Thank you Lord!!!!

  2. Thinking on forgiveness the thing that my mind is focusing on is sincerity of our pleas for forgiveness. That we often ask the Lord to forgive our sins and the next day or even the next minute we go out and do the same thing all over again. I often tell my son to remeber what it means when he says he is sorry. That it mean he knows it was wrong and he will do his best not to do it again. We need to keep in mind that forgiveness about sinning saying we are sorry and repeating this sequence over and over. To ask for forgiveness is a serious matter. The Lord will forgive us if we ask. But we also need to truly want it .

  3. The verse “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I put my hope.” stands out to me. When we finally come to the realization that we NEED God in our lives, then it’s only in knowing Him and getting to know Him that satisfies us…so we wait to hear His voice and we wait to learn from Him and we wait to see Him. And these things come about as we study His Word and find out that our hope is in and through Jesus.
