Mark 16 Commentary

So that they might go and anoint him- Embalm him.   Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb– It was too large for them to move, but that did not hinder them from going. God provided the stone to be rolled away, so that they may witness.  They saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe-  Or what they perceived as a young man. It was alarming, yet the intent was of comfort.  You seek Jesus of Nazareth- It is wonderful when in a state of confusion, someone is able to tell you what you are seeking. Sometimes in the stress of our lives we are granted with a reminder of who we are supposed to be searching for.  He has risen; he is not here.- He is alive, resurrected as he told us.  See the place where they laid him- Witness for  yourselves, that he is not here.  But go, tell his disciples and Peter- Peter is mentioned separately. He had denied Jesus, but here he is not excluded, but made special notice of, that he is forgiven.  And they went out and fled from the tomb- In fear, confusion. They said nothing, as who would believe them? Afterward he appeared to the eleven- As Judas had committed suicide, only eleven remained.  He rebuked them for their unbelief- As he had so many times before. They saw him calm storms, walk on water, heal the sick, raise the dead, and yet had doubted him again. Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation- Our mission still today. And these signs will accompany those who believe- These signs were given by the apostles in the book of Acts. The most notable, is being able to drink poison. I do not think this meant for the apostles to go around sampling poisons, but that they were protected from poisoning.  This is intriguing as Mohammed, the false prophet, died of poison.
